What is One Way Link Building?

Link building usually describes anything you do to point (build) hyperlinks back to your website with anchor text keywords that identify your site to others. These will be the keywords searchers use to search for your site on search engines. This can be done internally within your site, but mostly involves third party links back to your site. Links help to guide traffic to your site, create publicity for your site, add integrity, and most importantly allow search engines' bots, algorithms, to navigate your web pages to cache and index them for searchers to find. It's estimated that roughly 200 million searches are performed everyday, so you can see why link building is such a big deal for websites. They are all trying to get a piece of the 200 million slices of pie.

Search engines, through use of their complicated algorithms, give better search result rankings to those that essentially have more links to their site in cyberspace. Search engines see links as "votes" cast to show popularity, for lack of a better word. Why? Because if a site is willing to link to you, they likely know the implications of such: the site contains information users will likely find of value, and won't be linking to them if they don't think so.

One way links refer to links that are not reciprocated. In some instances websites will link to you, but require a link in return. While it's great to have a slew of these links out there, you should also incorporate one way links as well. Search engines are able to tell how many reciprocal links you have out there, so if they see you are only linking to people who link back to you they will devalue those 'votes' overtime.

Now, one must realize that link building is not just about getting one way links and reciprocal links here and there. Some rules and regulations should be followed, as part of a well thought out campaign. Developing a good link building campaign for obtaining your one way links is essential to your overall one way link building .

How does one perform one way link building? Well for starters you must create a great site to link to. This comes in the form of informative content, some graphics, and maybe some video. You'll find that naturally you receive one way links over time, but that won't be enough. Submitting your site to directories will help in your one way link building, as well as writing articles and submitting them to article directories and distributors. Placing one way links within the body of your article, or even a blog post, are all helpful ways in achieving rankings on search engines.

Some opt to purchase links, which may or may not be a good idea for your site. Remember, search engines like Google do not like paid links. And if you are found to have paid for links your site will no doubt be penalized. Try promoting your website on sites like Twitter and Facebook, list your site with links in local search engines like MerchantCircle and Yahoo Local, integrate a blog onto your site and provide regular content with internal links. There are a variety of ways to perform one way link building; the hard part is finding the time to do it all!
